VAN0806 Day 5: Seven-Part Wednesday

Seven-Part Wednesday lived up to its name. (In fact, it was an eight-part day for me, as there was a prelude as well, but, I digress). Originally planned as a four-part series, the keen kids that we are, packed in more fun than we could imagine…

Prelude: I headed to Stevie Y’s house, agenda in-hand, to start our work as co-MC’s for the big wedding. Understandably, as I hadn’t seen Stevie Y for 8 months prior to that day, we had lots to chat about and catch up on, but I wouldn’t allow it…We had to stay focused on the “task” at hand, wedding MC planning, and hence the necessary agenda.

Part 1: Dim Sum: Went over to Gah Lok (aka Gala) Seafood Restaurant for a yummy dim sum luncheon. Guests: Wes, Vie, Grace, Afa, Stevie Y, JMo, Rario, me. Total per person: $8. Dirt cheap!

Part 2: Bubble Tea: Crossed the parking lot to Bubble Tease for their 1,000+ flavour selection of bubble drinks, including the elusive “mini bubbles” that I love so much. Being so full of dim sum, I opted for the relatively less-filling Jasmine Green tea (small). Spontaneous game of 1..2..3..Goma ensued. Highlight was the final round head-to-head of Stevie Y vs. Vie where Stevie Y won (FYI: I wanted to play this at the wedding, but we couldn't figure out how it would work at the wedding!)

Part 3: Toys R Us: Spontaneous trip to buy a new board game to be christianed at WesnVie’s new (temporary) home. Purchased Hallabaloo, from the makers of Cranium.

Part 4: WesnVie’s: Their new place at West 13th and Pine, the lovely 1-bedroom apartment will be the newlywed’s home for the next five months as they wait for their place to finish being built. Good fun playing a new board game with the “King and Queen of board games.”

Part 5: Angry Tomatoes’ Softball Game: Three days before her wedding, Vie is still playing baseball in the dirt, along with the boys. What a great girl! This was a mini reunion out on the ball diamond, as the Angry Tomatoes are made up largely of ex-CVC’ers and friends. Had a great time in the sunshine, cheering as my favourite beer league team eeked out a 17-16 victory.

Part 6: Tomokazu sushi dinner: My new favourite AYCE place, Tomokazu was the perfect destination place for my hungry ball-playing buddies. As usual, good food, bad service. Highlights were their lobster and sharks fin sushi, and lowlights were their lack of oyster motoyakis. The DFungs stopped by too, as a pleasant surprise.

Part 7: Games at Stevie Y’s: A diehard tradition, board games night at Stevie Y’s was the final stage of the day. Exhausted though happy, we managed a full game of Celebrity Taboo and half a game of Balderdash.

The day began for me at 9:30am and ended at 3:00am. Definitely a packed day, but worthwhile and fun. Photos galore are on Rario’s new camera, which he promises to share with me one day…
