36 hours with Janger was more than enough to make up for lost time and our age-old self-promise of “seeing each other once a month”. On his way home from Montreal, Janger decided to stop over for the long weekend in Toronto, to visit the city and to see his aunt. The funny thing is that he has been living a mere 5-hours away from me, for over three months, but the last time I saw him was last Christmas when we were both in Vancouver (something that we both couldn’t even remember, until we saw a photo from last Christmas with both of us in it!)
Anyway, the usually “easy-going” guy was quite adament about what he wanted to do this weekend—eat all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ and see the Lord of The Rings musical. We did both, and then some. From the moment I met up with him at the Shopper’s in Eaton’s Centre to the moment I dropped him off at the Howard Park streetcar stop, we were talking (and eating) nonstop. The CNE was tons of fun, the Lord of the Rings was fabulous (even though it was my second time seeing it), and shopping at H&M was, well reasonable, considering I had to wait an hour for The Diva to pick out a pair of grey pants and a black shirt for his evening out.
A couple of welcomed guests who joined us at points over the weekend (and participated in our food binge) were Stef and Duong, who were our “double dates” to places like the Korean Grill House (where we ate meat nonstop for 2 hours), St. Lawrence Market (where we ate giant peameal sandwiches and pounds of free samples), Bistro 333 (where we ate plates of wraps and fries), and Richtree [formerly Marche] (where we ate massive waffles, covered in berries, syrup and ice-cream). When he arrives back in Vancity, there will be no way of distinguishing the 20 pounds that he’d lost in Montreal from the 20 pounds that he’s regained in Toronto. Despite the food affair, it was an overall lovely weekend with my buddy, and definitely a fun time. I look forward to our next reunion, Janger (or, wink, 36-hour “date”).
